St Edmundsbury Sailing & Canoeing Association
The St Edmundsbury Sailing and Canoeing Association (SESCA) is a small, family orientated, volunteer run, watersports club based at Lackford Lake, 5 miles NW of Bury St Edmunds.
It was founded in 1981 on a disused gravel pit. From lowly beginnings, with a second hand hut, it has been built up into a flourishing watersports centre. The Club prides itself on being accessible to all and being a great resource to the local community. It has very low membership fees (family membership is currently £90 per year) and a fleet of club boats, so it is not necessary to own a boat if you want to sail.
In addition to 100 active family and individual members, the Club has eight group members: the Bury St Edmunds, Mildenhall and Newmarket Sea Cadets; Suffolk Scouts; WASH Sailability (disabled sailing); Young People Afloat (youth sailing) and Priory School.
The Club’s sailing season runs from the last weekend in March until early November. Organised sailing and paddlesport activities take place on nearly every day throughout the summer. The Club is a registered RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Training and Sailability (sailing with disabilities) Centre and runs RYA dinghy sailing courses for members several times per year
Whether you are interested in dinghy sailing (pottering or racing), canoeing, windsurfing or just like the great outdoors, you are most welcome to visit the Club to see what we have to offer.
