Speech and Language Therapy Services for adults with learning disabilities

Speech and Language Therapy services for adults with learning disabilities are available across Suffolk for all young adults (West Suffolk/ East Suffolk CCGs).

We are able to assess and provide advice and therapy for dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) and communication impairments. We also offer free live online training about safe and enjoyable eating and drinking for families and staff and will also be offering online Total Communication training soon. We work closely with our colleagues in post-16 and SCARC (Suffolk Communication Aid Resource Centre) and health professionals across all NHS services. This means we can offer a joined-up service and note any additional needs which may affect your swallow or communication.

Patient, families, carers or other professionals are all able to refer to us via our referral form. We can see people at home, their college or day placements, or virtually, as they need. We are keen to ensure that everyone we support has an up to date description of their communication skills and support needs in line with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) Five Good Communication Standards*.

If you would like to speak to us, please contact us via the office on: 01473 935 405 or contact one of our SLTs: Susie.martin@esneft.nhs.uk.
