Emmaus Suffolk - Including Volunteering Opportunities
If you’d like to make new friends, have a fun and fulfilling day whilst learning new skills then Emmaus Suffolk could be the place for you. By offering volunteering roles within our (not for profit) business we want to give people the chance to make a difference for themselves, in a supportive environment through work related experience and training.
We have shops in Ipswich and Felixstowe, Well Being Hubs and at the Royal Oak site we have a community café and garden so there are many ways in which you can volunteer, get involved and make a difference.
In the shops:- On the shop floor, in the café, preparing stock, helping customers.
Supporting the Hubs - talking to people, helping with activities, hosting the teas and coffees, generally clearing up and having fun.
On the van:- helping out with loading, unloading, stock delivery and collection
In the Cafe: - front of house, serving ang taking orders to helping in the kitchen.
Clothes preparation:- sorting, steaming, tagging, display etc.
Bric-a-brac:- sorting, display etc.
Books, dvds, cds etc:- Checking for damage, processing through an electronic resale system, sorting, display etc.
We offer opportunities through meaningful activity for homeless, socially-isolated and long term unemployed people. The organisation provides education, training (including employment training) and work opportunities, and brings about the relief of poverty and resulting distress by helping people develop their skills in order to gain future employment, and maintain their sense of self-worth and dignity.
Emmaus Suffolk is a new and different way of increasing the chances for the homeless and long term unemployed in Ipswich, entering back into work and have a more fulfilling life, using a tried and tested successful national model. Emmaus Suffolk is an Independent charity, holding membership of the Federation of Emmaus Communities in the UK. All the money made in Suffolk stays in Suffolk.
Our Community House is to provide a stepping stone to help people rebuild their lives and move on to live and work completely independently. But, like at all Emmaus communities around the UK, there is no time limit on the support offered, and our tenants can stay for as long as they want to.
