Bury North Young People’s Mental Health Team
The Young People’s Mental Health team is responsible for providing community mental healthcare to service users who require more specialist treatment than is available through the Under 18’s Wellbeing Team, Suffolk CFYPS or Suffolk Wellbeing Service.
Age of service: Service users between 14 and up to 25 years of age.
The conditions we treat:
We treat young people with severe depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), personality disorders, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, and bipolar affective disorder.
In treating mental health in young people, diagnosis is not always as clear as for adults. It is important to focus on how young people are functioning and the impact on their mental health.
What to expect from us: When you come to us, you can expect to be informed clearly who is your care co-ordinator or lead professional, how to contact them routinely and arrangements for emergency contact – which is likely to be through another team out of office hours. The evidence based interventions with the young person could be via face to face contact, via telephone or group work.
How we support carers, including friends and family: For young people we would expect to include family members in all stages of care and treatment. We encourage continued involvement those aged over 18, in line with young people’s development and different legal expectations for adult service users.

Who is this service for?
The Young People’s Mental Health Team is responsible for providing community mental healthcare to service users between the ages of 14 up to 25 years old, who require more specialist treatment than is available through The Under 18’s Wellbeing Service of Suffolk Wellbeing Service. The service aims to work together with young people to support recovery from mental health with the best available treatment. In order to do this, for younger service users we would expect to include family members in all stages of care and treatment. We also encourage continued family involvement with over 18s in line with young people’s development, preferences and different legal expectations for adult service users.
The service would work inclusively of physical disability and are able to offer both disability accessible clinical buildings and community visits. The Young Peoples Mental Health Team aims to work, with the support of other specialist teams where necessary, which includes mental health care for young people with mild learning difficulties and autism, we are compliant with the Green Light toolkit.
We are not able to provide a service to young people with moderate or severe learning disabilities and mental health difficulty. We have a specialist service to support these young people via Learning Disability Service (CAMHS) up to age 18.
Is your service fully accessible?
Any information we have we can have translated into your language if needed. We will provide interpretation when needed including sign language. We have a hearing loop. Our buildings are fully accessible with disabled toilet access. We will organise home visits where necessary to ensure access to our service.
