Abbey Gardens, Bury St Edmunds

This attractive historic landscape has children's play facilities along side the river and is a favourite picnic area for all in the centre of a busy market town.

The Abbey Gardens, adjacent to the cathedral, offer a mass of horticultural colour, the occasional extraordinary sculpture and a small aviary. Walk through the magnificent Norman tower and under the portcullis and transform yourself into a knight from days gone by.

A sensory garden with lavenders and scented beds will calm the children down, and the ice cream shop is a treat during summer months.

Whilst the children are enjoying themselves, dad can visit The Nutshell, according to the Guinness Book of Records the smallest pub in Britain, or mum can go shopping in Anna’s - depending upon whose turn it is for some free time, of course…
