General Details

I Went to suffolk university college and Gained  the N.N.E.B Diploma as a nursery nurse I worked in a nursery for 2yrs before becoming a childminder in 2000. I am registered with Ofsted. and I became accredited and  recieved my senco certificate (special educational needs coordinator)in 2013.

I try to be as flexible as possible to meet both parent and child's needs. I do a range of crafts and activities with children to keep the children engaged and stimulated in a safe and happy environment I meet the early years foundation stage requirements by planning daily activities around Communication & Language, Physical Development, Expressive art and Design, Literacy,Maths,Understanding the world, Personal Social & Emotional Development & Characteristics of Effective learning. I keep a learning journey on all preschool children which I hand to teachers when they start school they will then be given to parents at the end of august when the child turns 5yrs.  The older ones have time do any home work they have as soon as we get home from school if that is what the parents want. I will also help with reading if asked. .I prepare meals at an extra charge

I will not tolerate bad behavior and reprimand them according to the age of the child I do not smack, shake or physically punish children. I am sure you will be pleased to know. I Have Added a number lock to the entrance gate to give extra security to the front of the setting the rear garden is fully enclosed and safe for the children to play freely and in safety. With a play house equipped with a kitchen and play food, and other out door toys. we have two paddling pools in the summer for toddlers and the older children with gazebo to protect from the sun. we have sand and water play.

I like people to feel at ease and have fun in my home. I treat the children in my home as part of my family. I have a small Jack Russell Dog Riley who is very funny and obsessed with balls of any size he loves to play rugby and football hr loves going down the slide at the park too, he is 5yrs old, the children can see him at any point by looking over the stable style door to were his bed is but they only have contact with him as they pass through to go to the toilet or at controlled times by me when i can supervise. There is a fantastic if i may say so myself camper van in the playroom which they can sit in and pretend to drive off on holiday in and prepare meals in the back. It has been used as a fire engine, ambulance and builders van too. We have lots of role play clothes, play dough, puzzles games, cars dolls, barbies action figures i could go on for some time but it would be better to come and see for yourself if you are interested in a placement for your child. I can take children from birth to 13 yrs 11 months. I regularly take the children out and about we go to the park and to feed the ducks which are with in walking distance of my setting. I arrange outings in the holiday periods involving the parents who wish to be a part of them or other helpers the children are always under my supervision and never left alone with anyone other than myself. The outings could be anything from a trip to the zoo, beach, museum or crabbing which is a favorite with most of the children. I have also Wentand to see Father Christmas with some of the children their mum and my own son in the arctic circle in Finland it was great. I have a two way flow of information between myself and the parents swapping information on the children both on arrival and collection. I keep learning journeys up to date and other relevant documents. I sit with potential new parents and children and go through my policies and contracts with them we do a starting point for the child so we are both happy with were they are at the beginning. I show them a prospectus to I show them my folder with all my qualifications and insurances and registration details. In holiday periods I offer a more laid back service than in school time as i have such a varied age range of children and am aware that for the school age children it is a holiday and should be treated as such but i still have a duty of care to the younger preschool aged children. with this in mind i arrange a list of days out to include lots of fun with education thrown in. This way the older ones feel they have had the fun time they want and the younger ones are getting the different areas of learning they need to. What ever we do their safety remains a priority and risk assessment is taken seriously. I had my latest OFSTED Inspection 2nd April 2019 and have been graded Outstanding.

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

I am senco qualified. I have  experience working with severe special needs I worked at Heathside and I have dealt with it from a more personal side with in my family I also Have  friends with a son with severe special needs including cerebral palsy. I have also recognised children needing early intervention and sought the proffesional help needed for them.I am no expert in any condition but given the needed information to care and meet the needs of any child I will do my best for the child and their parents.

As an accredited Senco childminder I continually observe and assess the children in my care be it visually or written with  in the expectations of the EYFS. I Discuss any concerns regarding a childs development with the parent and together we make plans to give the child the  to help bring them up to were we might expect them to be for their age  and stage of development. If after a suitable period of time we feel the child is not progressing as we would hope I would seek the advice of the  needed professionals. I have done some Makaton and use total inclusion in my setting. I attend Safe guarding courses and first aid training as well as many other courses to keep up to date in all areas  to maintain the health and safety to all the children in my setting. I offer the 15 hour per week government funded places for 2,3& 4yr olds I issue flyers when asked or needed.I also offer the 30 hours government funding for those entitled. I can claim for additional funding for children with special educational needs in my setting.

My aim as a childminder is to see every child I care for thrive and flourish, I want to see them meet their potential and my high expectations.

In order for them to do this I will be a positive role model to build their self confidence and self esteem. I will to the best of my ability physically to keep them safe from harm.

I will do what is needed for the children and parents to feel heard and have a say in the care I give them. I will make it clear that the child's welfare is paramount and I will do what I believe is in their best interest if I have any concerns for their safety. I will speak to the parents first unless I believe doing so would put a child at risk.

It is important in the early years, that there is no delay in making any necessary special educational provision. early action to address identified needs is critical to the future progress & improved outcomes. I work in partnership with parents to establish what support their child needs. I use a graduated approach with four stages of action. Assess, Plan, Do and Review.

Excellent childminder
Donna has looked after my 2 children for 3 years.  I returned to work when my daughter was one and we wanted a homely environment for her and my 4 year old boy (who Donna drops off and picks up from school 3 days/week).  Donna has provided this and more.  She is kind and has become a friend to us as well as our kids.  My kids are clearly happy with Donna - she provides a safe and loving envronment with age appropriate activities.  I would not hesitate in recommending Donna to anyone requiring childcare.
Friendly, flexible and helpful!
We found ourselves struggling with wrap around care for our two children with one of them having been diagnosed with ASD. Donna took them both on at short notice and has proved herself to be absolutely wonderful since! Both my children (aged 8 and 10) love being with her, she’s been totally dependable and we cannot fault her! She has dealt with our autistic son very well by adapting and adjusting for him whilst maintaining the right level of care for the others. Would recommend Donna to anyone.
Brilliant childminder
Donna looks after my 19 month old little girl 2 days a week. My daughter settled in straight away and I believe this is down to Donna and her lovely home setting. Donna has a lot of experience and her passion for looking after children really shines through. Donna is a great listener and always offers advice when needed. I'd highly recommend Donna, she's everything I wanted in a child minder.
Excellent child minder
donna has been looking after my son since 9 months old she has been amazing and taught my son a lot as I'm a single mum and very hard sometimes with work and school runs donna has always offered to have extra times if needed, I couldn't reccomend her enough very caring and helpful and has become a friend as also my child minder who my son loves very much
Fabulous childminder
Donna has looked after my little boy since he was 11 months. He absolutely loves it there and Donna is fantastic at what she does. She is reliable, flexible and extremely conscientious.I wouldn't hesitate in recommending her services to anyone.
Reliable and helpful childminder
Donna has child-minded for my son for the past 6 years. We initially selected Donna because of her good reputation and location to work as although I work near, we are not local to the area. But 6 years on and now my son is at school in Ipswich, we still choose Donna to look after him during the school holidays as we know she is reliable, thoughtful, friendly and has helped our child above and beyond what is required of a childminder when we discovered that he has learning difficulties. She is extremely patient and calm ( I have not heard her raise her voice in 6 years!!) but also ensures that bad behaviour is not acceptable and therefor gains respect from the children she cares for which in turn improves their behaviour whilst in her care. Donna is always willing to chat to the parents and advise them if they wish on any aspect of their child with her vast knowledge of minding children of different ages & abilities.
Excellent childcare provider
Donna has taken care of my multi allergy son since the age of 12 months ,(now 25 months) He also has numerous medications he needs at various times and Donna has always been happy to administer them. My little boy struggled with separation anxiety and found it hard to settle at a nursery setting . Donna quickly built a bond that made my son settle and feel at home whilst also allowing me to get used to him being in childcare we would often chat and have a drink. My son has ongoing issues with illnesses ,development and speech which Donna has been pro active in helping us get local support. Donna is very reliable, adaptable and also very flexible . Donna is very loving towards all the children she cares for and provides a great learning whilst playing setting. Donna has become a good friend to all of our family and a massive support to us with my sons on going issues. He loves his time at donnas and is always very happy and smiley when we see Donna .
Highly recommended
Donna has collected my son from school and looked after him until I finish work, for the past 3 years. She has not let me down once. Very reliable.
