1st Thurston Scout Group

We are the UK's biggest mixed youth organisation. We change lives by offering 6- to 25-year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities.

Scouts helps children and young adults reach their full potential. Scouts develop skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment. We help young people to get jobs, save lives and even change the world.

Support for people with disabilities

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

The Specialist Advisers are a national team who support District, County and Regional Scouting to ensure it is inclusive, accessible and as diverse as the communities in which we live.

We are a resource, a sounding board, a listener and supporter for anyone seeking guiding around diversity and inclusion in Scouting. Specialist Advisers offer a safe, trusted space for adults in Scouting to be able to discuss challenging and sensitive issues that may not feel comfortable to discuss elsewhere.

As a team we have a range of professional and Scouting expertise; and each possess a genuine passion and enthusiasm for supporting Scouting For All. Practically in each of our regions we can offer training; support and guidance, and strategic input.

Areas the team can support include:
•    Additional Needs (disabilities, learning difficulties, challenging behaviour)
•    Community engagement
•    Gender equality
•    LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender)
•    Socio-economic inclusion
