Eastern Region Training

Eastern Region Training

We are a training facility who specialise in the construction sector and health and safety. Located in Baylham just outside of Ipswich, we have 17 years of construction sector training experience. We also boast a full working warehouse for forklift training and plenty of  indoor and outside space for our other training courses all of which are accredited by national awarding bodies such as Pearson, NOCN and CITB. Our students enjoy coming to our facilities, saying that we are different from school and we feel more like being in a working environment.

While we run roofing apprenticeships for post 16 students, for our younger students (14 -16) we are able to provide a variety of options from a few weeks to a couple of years. We normally partner with a school or pupil referral unit and take small groups of 6 students. We find this group size works well both in terms of student interaction and our health and safety commitments to keeping our young people safe while teaching them trades such as carpentry, brick-laying and roofing.

We offer the BTEC First in Construction and the Built Environment which runs over the course of 1 year and is equivalent to a GCSE at level 1 or 2. This course covers 4 modules, each looking at a different aspect of construction from technical drawing to practical skills and environmental concerns. With 3 coursework based units, we are proud to say that our latest cohort achieved 100% success rate in their external exam.

We also run shorter programmes such as our BTEC Awards and Certificates, accredited by Pearson. These courses are modular and can build unit by unit, meaning that students can start by completing two units over 10 days, one health and safety and one trade short course to gain the level 1 award. If the students and school want to continue, they can bolt on extra modules of different trade skills to achieve the certificate in construction rather than the award.

We are accredited to teach and assess functional skills and employability in addition to our construction awards.

Notes

Olivia is our link to schools and academies. She is a CITB Construction Ambassador who regularly goes out to schools and colleges to chat to young people about their options, sometimes taking cards and lego with her! She facilitates matching interested students with potential employers and keeps schools up to date with pupil's progress. If you call us though, we are all friendly and willing to help if Olivia isn't around as she only works Monday - Wednesday.

Once you reach Baylham Autos, keep going until you see a turn on the right hand side. The road at the end of where we are has a train crossing, while we are behind some big green metal gates.

We can have full days or half days. We find that half-days work best for our students as there is a lot to do and a lot of new information to take on board. A whole day is usually quite tiring!

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

We are able to adapt our provision for students who have SEND. We have experience of student with EHCP and set all of our students individualised SMART targets based on their needs.  We have staff who have certificates in understanding challenging behaviour, autism, specific learning difficulties and young people's mental health. We currently provide for students by using video evidence to lessen the burden of writing as well as having a selection of coloured paper and overlays for students with Irlen syndrome or sensory difficulties.

We are proud to have been quality assured ( https://infolink.suffolk.gov.uk/kb5/suffolk/infolink/advice.page?id=GAoLM4W7rTA ) by Suffolk County Council as having good measures in place for young people with SEND. Please find our policies here on our website:  https://www.easternregiontraining.co.uk/policies/

Our office is wheelchair accessible, and we are able and willing to make reasonable adjustments to the training that we provide. However, due to the physical nature of our training and the health and safety aspect, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate individuals who have severe learning difficulties or physical conditions.
