The Children's Trust – Specialist Neurorehabilitation

TCT Logo

We are the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury. We deliver rehabilitation, education and community services through skilled teams who work with children and young people aged 0-18, with acquired brain injury, neurodisability, and complex health needs. It is our ambition that all children with brain injury and neurodisability have the opportunity to live the best life possible.

Specialist Rehabilitation Services

Our national specialist centre located south of London, in Tadworth, Surrey (junction 8 M25), is the largest of its kind in the UK. As one of the only paediatric facilities outside of an acute hospital setting that can provide the most complex rehabilitation in the UK, our neurorehabilitation packages support children and young people aged 0-18 through a range of therapies, education and play to help them make the best possible return to everyday life.

Each rehabilitation programme is tailored to the individual child’s needs, incorporating lots of different therapies delivered by a multidisciplinary team including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and play and music therapy.

We assess each child individually and are able to work with children with a variety of complex neurological conditions and health needs including (but not limited to):

  • acquired brain injury
  • tracheostomy/long-term ventilation
  • spinal injury
  • cerebral palsy
  • stroke
  • global development delay
  • movement disorders
  • neurogenetic disorders
  • dysphagia
  • neurometabolic disorders
  • disorders of consciousness (e.g. minimally conscious)
  • profound and multiple learning difficulties
  • complex health needs.

With services delivered in conjunction with partners such as NHS England and other funding bodies including local authorities and clinical commissioning groups, we are the only paediatric neurorehabilitation provider with a national specialised commissioning contract to deliver brain injury rehabilitation for children with the most complex needs on behalf of NHS England. This means that funding flows automatically for children who meet the criteria. Where NHS England doesn’t fund placements, we have a dedicated team who work with commissioners and other parties to secure funding. In addition, we raised in excess of £8 million a year to support the delivery of our services through fundraising activities.

Thanks to the on-going generosity of The Children’s Trust’s supporters, our 24-acre national specialist centre features a modern rehabilitation centre, aquatics therapy pool, gym, specially adapted equipment, soft play and sensory areas, and on-site accommodation for parents (subject to availability) meaning they can remain close to their child during their stay with us.
