Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

Our Saturday Club recieves funding from the Henry Smith foundation, to provide short respite sessions for children with additional needs and their siblings under 9 years old,

A child may have additional needs for many different reasons, for example: chronic illness, disability, behavioural problems, developmental delay, family bereavement, social, emotional or communication difficulties. The list is by no means exhaustive.

One key aim of the session is to offer short respite care. Parents/carers have the option to either spend time with siblings away from the group whilst their child with additional needs is here with us having fun with their friends. Alternatively ALL children can come to the group to give parents/carers some time to themselves, making the most of their children being safely cared for.

All of our children with additional needs are allocated a key person to build a special trusting relationship with, this ensures the child feels safe and that all of the child's achievements are recorded.
