Springfields Pre-school
Preschool
Our sessions are free flow allowing the children free access to the outside area throughout sessions. This is important as outdoor play contributes to children’s health, their physical development and their understanding of the world around them.
During their pre-school year children are given the opportunity to attend Tudor Primary School on two afternoons per week for a playground session and a P.E session. During the summer term before going to school the children also visit their new classrooms and their new teacher comes into pre-school weekly to meet the children and read stories.
Key Persons
Our setting has a key person system. This means all members of staff have a group of children for whom they are particularly responsible. Your child’s keyperson will be the person who works with you to make sure that we provide forchild’s particular needs and interests. Throughout your child’s time at Springfields their key person will plan for your child’s needs and record
information on your child in their Learning Journey.
Learning Journey
The setting keeps a Learning Journey for each child. Staff and parents working together on their child’s Learning Journey is one of the ways in which parents andcarers work in partnership. Your child’s Learning Journey is a celebration of theirachievements.
Early Years funding is available for three and four year olds. This allows your child to attend sessions for 15 hours per week. Funding is also available for two year olds (dependent on personal circumstances)

Support for people with disabilities
- Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities
At Springfields Pre-School we aim to offer excellence and choice to all our children, whatever their ability or needs. We have high expectations of all our children. We aim to achieve this through the removal of barriers to learning and participation. We want all our children to feel that they are a valued part of our setting community. Through appropriate curricular provision, we respect the fact that children:
have different educational and behavioural needs and aspirations;
require different strategies for learning;
acquire, assimilate and communicate information at different rates;
need a range of different teaching approaches and experiences.
Staff use a range of strategies to meet children’s Special Educational Needs. Learning and activities have clear learning objectives, we differentiate work appropriately, and we use assessment to inform the next stage of learning.
Individual Support Plans (ISPs), which employ a small-steps approach, feature significantly in the provision that we make in the setting. By breaking down the existing levels of attainment into finely graded steps and targets, we ensure that children experience success.
The setting is wheelchair accessible.
There are Elklan and Makaton trained staff within the setting.
