IMPACT Detached Project - Detached Youth Workers
IMPACT is a Detached Youth project working with young people 13 - 24 on the streets of Lowestoft, Waveney and Gt Yarmouth.
Due to government cuts to youth provision in the country and Suffolk there are fewer services on offer to young people, This lack of provision means more young people with nothing to do and nowhere to go and also no one to talk too. More young people on the streets!
Our Aims & Methods
The aim of the project is to work with groups of young people in their environment and enable them to positively participate in the community where they live.
This project will also support young people who are NEET (Not in Education Employment or Training) and provide information, advice and signposting on a range of issues including Drugs & Alcohol, Sexual Health and Teenage Pregnancy.
Continuing the necessity of recognising young people are not a homogeneous group and that issues of class, gender, race, sexuality, disability and faith remain central.
The project will also work with young people who are involved in risk taking behaviour and support them to make good informed life choices.
The project will use a multi-agency approach. Working closely with external partners i.e. local police and parish councils and offering a holistic service (referrals to other professionals) involving young people in seeking solutions and making decisions.
The project will adopt identified good practice and 'what works' drawn from previous detached youth work experiences.
