Little Larks is a private day nursery set in a beautiful countryside location near Nowton Park. Our nursery is registered for 42 children who are cared for by our team of highly experienced and qualified practitioners. We take children from 3 months to 5 years old and our opening times are 8am to 6pm, 51 weeks a year. 7.30am starts are available if required and we offer funded places all year round.
Our large, light and spacious nursery is full of age specific toys and resources for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers to help meet their individual needs and to promote their choice and independent learning. Babies have their own homely rooms with traditional cots to sleep in, whilst older children can enjoy the large open plan layout with plenty of space to roam around! We have a separate 'messy' play area, a cosy reading corner as well as a dark sensory den to snuggle up in!
We are fortunate to have large gardens and a great outdoor learning environment for children to explore. Our rooms allow for free-flow access into the gardens where we have all the equipment needed for maximum play (and learning!). We have gazebos, ride on toys, slides, a large sand pit and our very own 'Lark' Ness Monster to climb on. Children can investigate bugs in our ‘bug hotel’, play with textures and ingredients in our mud kitchen, climb trees or move and transport soil and stones in our construction site! We often go out for walks to explore the footpaths around the nursery and the children love going to Nowton Park to say hello to the giant panda and feed the ducks!
Our onsite kitchen has a 5* food hygiene rating and children help to grow their own fruit and vegetables which are used by our chef to cook healthy snacks and meals every day.
At Little Larks children have a key person who will have responsibility for them. The key person will develop a strong bond with your child as they care for them and give them the reassurance they need to progress and develop. We work in partnership with parents and will share all information about your child’s day at nursery, which has a positive impact on their learning and development.
We use Tapestry as on online Learning Journey to record observations of your child’s play. This unique journal is shared online with you, so you can see special moments and view your child’s progress at any time. It also allows us to monitor development through the 7 areas of learning
The prime areas: Personal, Social and emotional development, Physical development, Communication and Language.
The specific areas: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World, Expressive arts and design.
We can then use this information to plan future activities for their development.
The Learning Journey will stay with your child through their early years education right up to the end of their school reception year.

Support for people with disabilities
- Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities
We have a designated Senco Leader and are a fully inclusive provision which implements a graduated approach within our setting. Our focus is on promoting inclusive practice and removing barriers to learning to allow quality teaching for all. Staff work together and plan in advance approaches that help children with SEND. We work in partnership with parents and other agencies, for example, portage, speech and language therapists and medical professionals. All parents, carers and children are made to feel welcome and valued and we ensure that the child has opportunities to express their views and opinions on what they choose to participate in using whatever communication method they choose. Activities are then led by the interests and enthusiasms of each child and take place with regard to any likes, dislikes and specific needs each child may have.
Our staff have had attitudinal training around disability and other equality issues and continue to take part in training about inclusion.
