Minding The Gap

Minding the Gap is a Building Better Opportunities project, funded by the European Social Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund to offer targeted support to some of the hardest to reach young people throughout Suffolk, to help them move successfully towards the labour market.

Working in urban, rural and coastal communities in Suffolk the project provides targeted and intensive support for unemployed and economically inactive young people who face significant barriers to employment and are currently, or at risk of becoming, socially isolated. Project activities help develop emotional wellbeing and mental health, new skills and experience, and support progression into education, training or employment.

Specialist caseworkers provide 1-to-1 and group sessions, underpinning the development of employability skills, personal resources and experience including training and qualifications, voluntary and work placements, by providing support with issues including confidence building, conflict resolution and anger management, healthy relationships, drugs and alcohol issues, self-harm, and communication skills. With regular opportunities to take part in forest schools, cookery, meditation and mindfulness, walking groups and much more, all support is built around participants’ individual needs, focussing on relevant, high-quality interventions and personal development.

Young people we can work with will be aged 15-24, and NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) or at the risk of becoming NEET. They will be struggling to overcome barriers to work, education and/or training, must be eligible to work in the UK, and unemployed or economically inactive.
