Rica

Rica (Research Institute for Consumer Affairs) is an independent disabled-led charity which researches and publishes unbiased information. It has free independent consumer guidance on products and services to enable older and disabled people to live more independently - see the Rica website for details. Rica carries out specialist person-centred research: mystery shopping, usability testing including packaging, surveys, focus groups and tailored research on request. It carries out commissioned research with manufacturers, service providers, regulators and policy makers to improve products and services. Rica’s aim is to increase their awareness of the needs of disabled and older consumers. Rica has useful resources on inclusive design.

Older and disabled people in Suffolk are welcome to join the RicaWatch panel to take part in future research.

Rica free guides include: on driving for people who need car adaptations: choosing a car, car controls, getting a wheelchair into a car, a guide for older drivers, and for families of disabled children. Rica has a unique car measurement search – with over 1,500 cars factsheets – where you can use measurements such a seat height, size of boot to find a suitable car. Rica also has online guidance on getting a stairlift, choosing a mobility scooter, including which ones go on public transport, bathing and household appliances for older blind or partially sighted people plus useful consumer advice.
