Re-engage
Re-engage has suspended our monthly tea parties and is instead offering a new telephone befriending service called call companions. This new service will be a permanent addition to our work.
The call companions idea is very simple: a volunteer call companion calls the same older person between two and four times a month at a mutually agreed time for an informal chat. Calls will last for around 30 minutes.
Just like our social gatherings, the call companions programme is aimed at people who are
• older
• living alone or in sheltered housing or residential care
• struggle to leave their house in normal times
In addition, for call companions we ask that the older people have sufficiently good hearing to take on regular phone conversations.
We will match older people with volunteers who share some of the same interests or hobbies to help spark conversation.
If you know anyone who would benefit from call companions, please refer them using our simple online form. Don’t forget to get the older person’s consent first. You can find the form on our website at Refer an older person to CC.

- Notes
Sunday afternoon tea is provided once a month from 3.00pm to 5.00pm by volunteer hosts in their homes.
Volunteer drivers collect older guests, take to (and stay for) the tea party and drop guests home again.
The tea parties are open to socially isolated people over the age of 75 who live alone (applicants who don’t live alone and/or are under the age of 75 are considered on a case by case basis)
Groups currently operate in Bury St Edmunds, Eye, Ipswich, Stowmarket and Sudbury, and are planned for Woodbridge. We hope to open more groups in other parts of the county, depending on interest from volunteers and guests.
