Students will choose options depending on their individual likes and skills. We will take a personalised approach and adapt our provision to suit each individual student. In all the activities above we aim to develop a wide range of transferable skills which will benefit the young person as they leave education and make the transition into adult life. We see these skills and benefits as being:
- Increased confidence and self esteem
- Self-expression, social skills and independence skills
- IT skills with use of a range of technology
- Safe use of social media
- Taking responsibility
- Team working
- Ability to self-organise, develop timekeeping and to follow a schedule
- Development of a work ethic
- The making of friendships and participation in a social group
WHERE WE WILL BE BASED
We will be using a venue in or very near the centre of Lowestoft in order to be accessible. Lowestoft is one of the most deprived areas in Suffolk with many people who are disadvantaged in terms of health, disability, employment and social networks. We view our proposal as aiming to increase the life chances of our disabled students who probably already suffer the additional disadvantages of living in this area.
We propose that our students will be young people with disabilities/additional needs who live in the Lowestoft area and are aged probably between 16 and 25 years but this is flexible.
