The Tower Street Print Project

The Tower St Print Project is run by Oyster Community Press CIC, a Community Interest Arts Organisation and delivers printmaking workshops at its new dedicated space in Ipswich. Their studio is in the Tower House at 17 Tower Street, opposite St Mary Le Tower Church, beside the Tower Ramparts bus station.

At the Tower Street studio, both beginners and those with some experience can find out about different printmaking techniques, under the guidance of an experienced and friendly team, who will make them feel at ease. Choose from one day Introduction to Printmaking workshops, half day 'Have a Go' sessions on Saturday mornings, Weekend Bootcamp to boost your creativity or longer courses in linocutting and Drypoint etching. They also offer Arty Party's, team-building days for volunteers and staff and portfolio development days for students preparing for GSEs, A Levels and University entrance. Tower St Print Project is a recognised centre for delivering Arts Awards up to Silver level from the Arts Council.

Alongside running a year round programme of classes and courses at the Tower St Print Project, Oyster Community Press CIC also work on community art projects and curate exhibitions. Find out more about these on their website www.towerstprintproject.org.uk They were runners up in the national Hearts for the Arts award in 2017.

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

We can work with students with special needs depending on their requirements. We have worked with Pine Trees School in Thetford and with Suffolk Artlink with their jumpstart group and can consider other project work with similar groups of students on a one off basis. We do not have trained or specialist staff but our artists can help people with mild to moderate conditions get pleasure and satisfaction from learning some printmaking. This has to be done on a case by case basis as we work with sharp tools. A discussion with teaching staff  and carers will always be our starting point on this.
