The Oak Tree Community Farm
The Oak Tree Community Farm is home to Suffolk's first Community Supported Agriculture Scheme. Featured on both BBC Countryfile and Escape to the Country!
It's located in the village of Rushmere-St-Andrew, on the edge of Ipswich.
Community Supported Agriculture schemes (CSAs) are all about reconnecting people with where and how food is grown. Membership of the scheme enables you to enjoy a weekly veg box with freshly harvested vegetables straight from the farm. Free range eggs, soft fruit and cut flowers are also available.
Most members help out at the farm for a few hours each month, typically planting or weeding the veg. There's also a Supporter membership option which allows people to enjoy all of the benefits of a weekly veg box delivered to their door, without any of the work!
Produce is grown without artificial chemicals - in an environmentally sustainable way. The scheme is also educational, offering people the opportunity to learn about sustainable food growing.
As well as membership, the farm offers volunteering opportunities, school visits and corporate away days. It also provides talks to local organisations.
The farm also sells cut flowers directly to the public – bouquets for birthdays, anniversaries and special events. The flowers are grown in the farm’s bee-friendly flower garden. Unlike the flowers from florists and supermarkets, Oak Tree flowers are grown without chemicals and of course there are no air miles!
Covering: Rushmere St Andrew, Ipswich, South Ipswich, East Ipswich, West Ipswich, North Ipswich, Kesgrave, Martlesham, Woodbridge and surrounding villages in East Suffolk area.
