General Details

We are a team of highly qualified, friendly staff providing Early Years education in a rich, rural environment at Barking Village Hall.

Early Years  funding is available for eligible 2 year olds and for all children the term after their 3rd birthday.

The Pre-School is run by a committed and enthusiastic team of staff, who work hard to organise a wide variety of fun and educational activities to meet the individual needs of all children. The group is well equipped with a wide range of resources and has a spacious area within which to play. There is also a large secure garden behind the hall for outdoor play.

We believe in good parent partnerships and acknowledge children reach their full potential whilst engaging in activities based around their individual interests. We also invite parents to 'stay and play' with their children to gain a true insight into how they play and develop in the setting.

Feedback from parents

She has had such a fantastic time with you all at and thoroughly enjoyed coming to spend time with you all and her friends. Thank you for looking after her and giving her a caring, safe and enjoyable start to her learning.  She was always excited when I would say that it is Pre- School tomorrow,   and **** loved showing me the pictures and crafts she had made when I got home from work.  She would see seem really proud of what she had done and loved telling me about what she did and what things she had used.

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

Our setting has a designated person to oversee the Safeguarding and Welfare requirements of children and their families in addition to a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENCo) for children who require any additional support.

At Barking Pre-School the emphasis of our Special Educational Needs Policy is on the early identification of any difficulties a child may have.

We provide a wide range of differentiated activities to meet individual needs as planned by the child’s key person through the Early Years Foundation Stage framework ( EYFS)

We aim to develop good relationships with parents/carers and will consult them if we feel a child would benefit from additional support and activities.

We welcome all children and their families. We gather as much information at an early stage to ensure all children’s needs are met before joining the setting to enable a smooth settling-in period. Children and their families are encouraged to visit the setting prior to starting to get familiar with the environment and meet staff, this can be as done as often as needed.

Barking Pre-School is set in a village hall which is all on one level with double doors and a ramp to the cloakroom and toilets including an accessible toilet.

All staff has a vast and varied experience in children. 5 staff are trained in Makaton Signing. Specialist courses have been attended – Speech and Language Disorders in Children, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. All staff are trained in First Aid.

Barking Pre-School has excellent resources, many of which are inclusive to children with additional needs. A selection of puppets and persona dolls, large print and tactile books and a vast amount of resources to promote speech and language.

We use a visual timetable with photos of the setting and symbols. A choice board and visual instructions are used to support children.
