West Suffolk Ranger Service

The Conservation Volunteers are a group led by the Park Rangers, dedicated to carrying out practical tasks on Public Open Spaces under the management of St Edmundsbury Borough Council. The tasks are not “set-up” activities; they are real life jobs that have a real impact on the environmental value or visitor enjoyment of a site.

Activities in the past have included fencing, raking hay, planting trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants, tree felling, coppicing, hedge maintenance, weeding, pond maintenance, restoring historical features, and many more.

Training is provided throughout, and Conservation Volunteers have the opportunity to take on new tasks as their skills, physical abilities and confidence develop.

There are no set age limits for Conservation Volunteers. However, people under 16 can participate with the written consent of their parent/guardian and under the supervision of an adult, while people under 18 can participate with the written consent of their parent/guardian.
