Support for people with disabilities
- Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities
At Pitstop all our staff are proudly committed to ensuring every child is happy, safe and nurtured in an environment that is made accessible for all families.
Every child is individual and unique, and they deserve to be treated as such. Regardless of a child's individual needs we work constantly to make sure that all children have access to the early years experiences that they are entitled to. We are particularly passionate about the ethos of learning through play underpinning the curiosity approach in which we are currently working towards our accreditation.
Our children enjoy the use of Makaton as part of our daily routine, this helps all our children to be more accepting of a child that may use different forms of communication. All our staff are provided with symbol and emotions cards, allowing them to communicate with all children, regardless of age or communication needs.
We pride ourselves on our open door policy which enables us to form good working relationships with our families. These relationships help us to work alongside families to provide individually tailored planning for every child in our setting. This planning makes sure that every child has access to activities that meet both their interests and their level of development.
Our setting is all on one level with flat access in and out if the building. We also have appropriate toilet facilities for multiple needs.
As well as working with families we also work closely with other agencies and professionals. We work hard to support children that are already receiving help from other professionals by attending meetings and following support plans. But we also understand that early intervention is important so we will help families to access the support they need if ourselves or parents have identified that a child may need extra support.
Our manager Becky Thrower is a trained SENDco who is our designated SENDco for our setting. But all our staff have a good knowledge of supporting all additional needs and this is something that is regularly bought up in training at our team meetings and at staff one-to-ones.
Finally we have a range of policies and procedures which help to back our inclusive and non discriminatory practice within our setting which we take very seriously.
