The founder members, now Trustees of Suffolk Aviation Heritage Group, are highly experienced volunteers. Collectively the four Trustees have more than 100 years of experience in their field, including the foundation of two previous museums. During, what are now termed the 'wilderness years', the Group sought a raison d'etre while looking for a new location. Between finding a home for DC3 Dakota N4565L, partaking in consultation exercises, honing research techniques and exhibition skills, a new approach was gradually formed. A two years search for suitable premises covered thirty buildings and the submission of four detailed planning applications. Finally, a lease was taken on the Generator House at a former WT Station, on the outskirts of Ipswich. After a three-year restoration programme, the Suffolk Aviation Heritage Display Centre opened its doors to the public in 2007. The first part of a unique art based chronological timeline, depicting the history of aviation in Suffolk, is on display at the Suffolk Aviation Heritage Display Centre. This ongoing project is greatly enhanced by the work of the Group Artist, renowned for his accuracy and interpretational skill. Suffolk Aviation Heritage Group is an all-inclusive charitably based organisation. The prevailing philosophy is based on a work ethic, structured to meet set objectives. Anyone with enthusiasm and commitment can join in with its activities. Exploration of this website will reveal the current trends and future aspirations of the Suffolk Aviation Heritage Group. The Trustees also invite you to come and see the advertised special exhibitions, artefacts and ongoing research projects in the constantly evolving Suffolk Aviation Heritage Display Centre.
