Avenue Mansions

Avenue Mansions is a supported housing scheme in Lowestoft, Suffolk. The support is provided by Access Community Trust and landlord for the building is Orwell Housing.  It is a building divided into 5 one bedroom flats and 3 bedsits. Staff are based on site in Flat 1 and work between the hours of 10am and 6pm. We also have night staff who sleep on site from 8pm to 8am.

Avenue Mansions is semi-independent living. All flats and bedsits come with separate kitchens and bathrooms, the kitchen is equipped with washing machine, fridge and electric cooker. Curtains and blinds are also provided.  

Residents at Avenue Mansions are responsible for their own utility bills including, water and sewerage, council tax (if applicable) TV license (if applicable) and Electric. The electric is on a pay as you go meter.  There is no personal service charge for Avenue Mansions, however, if the weekly rent is not covered by Housing benefit or Social Care then the resident is expected to pay this.

Each resident will be assigned a key worker when they move in who they will be expected to meet with regularly. During their key work meetings, residents will create a support plan, this is a plan of achievable goals they want or need to meet whilst they are living in supported housing. Residents must work with staff to achieve these goals. The support covers things like bills and budgeting, household management skills and healthy living.

We also have regular house meetings where residents get to have their say on ideas for outings, fundraising, or general things that are going on at the project.

To be considered for Avenue Mansions a Suffolk Coordination Referral will need to be made (SCS form). This form can be filled in by a professional wishing to refer a young person to our project or a young person can fill this in themselves. The form is then sent directly to SCS who will send us a notification to say someone has applied. We will look at the referral and make a decision to see if the person is suitable for the support provided at Avenue Mansions. If this is the case they will be accepted on to our waiting list and we will contact them to arrange an assessment interview once we have a vacancy available.

Avenue Mansions caters for people who need a higher level of housing related support. This includes support with benefits, education, training and employment, managing a tenancy and other independent living skills. We provide signposting and referrals to other services who offer support with things such as Mental Health or Substance Misuse.  We do not provide personal care.
