Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

We aim for excellence in all we do. We are forthright in our belief that every child deserves to succeed. We strive for outstanding learning and teaching and we have a strong team of professionals at Bures.

Our SENCO has the National Award for SEN Coordination. In addition we have an  ELKLAN trained learning support assistant who leads the support for children across all age groups with Speech and Language difficulties. We are currently seeking accreditation to be a Communication School. We believe in early intervention and our ELKLAN trained staff deliver this support.

All of the learning support assistants at Bures School deliver regular intervention programmes that include off-the-shelf, as well as personalised packages designed to meet the needs of individual and groups of children.

We run physical intervention such as Gym Trail,  emotional and pastoral care, and offer booster sessions in maths and English for those children deemed by the school to need support. We are working with a Forest Schools leader in order to support our Nursery children.

Specific interventions include: Toe by Toe, Dancing Bears, 123 maths, FFT Literacy Wave 3, Word Wasp, Social Stories and Precision Teaching.

We work closely with outside agencies to provide specific intervention or support to those children who require it.

Our school is wheel-chair friendly and we have a hearing loop for use in class, as well as in our school hall to help hard-of-hearing pupils to access our collective worship.
