Notes

Hundon and Thurlow Primary Federation consists of two small, family focused primary schools, committed to ‘laying the foundations for a bright future’ for all our children. Working together we are dedicated to educating every child to their full potential while giving high priority to every aspect of their personal and spiritual development.

Both located in delightful rural village settings, each situated on the main route into Bury St Edmunds, (just 2.5 miles from the A143) and a mere 15 minutes and 5 miles from the town of Haverhill. Our schools are set within effectively designed grounds with a skilful and dedicated team of teachers and learning support staff who work together to ensure every individual has the space to think, learn, interact with others and grow to become astute, confident learners, making good or better progress.

Located at the heart of each community our schools are spacious, bright and well organised environments where a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum, personalised to meet the needs of all our children from the very start of their school life, is successfully delivered.

Both judged ‘good’ by Ofsted, (Hundon Community Primary School in March 2020 with outstanding elements and Thurlow Church of England (VC) Primary School in March 2023,) we are committed to providing the very best educational experiences and securing high educational standards for our pupils.

Our pupils are, without a doubt, the best measure of our success and I encourage you to come and visit us, meet our pupils, staff and governors and find out for yourself what makes Hundon and Thurlow Primary Federation a unique and inspiring learning community.

Support for people with disabilities

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

Our aim is to ensure all children are supported in order that they may work confidently and independently towards reaching their full potential. Policy and practice reflects the philosophy and fundamental principles within the SEN Code.

Close regard is paid to the three key principles of inclusive education:

  • Setting suitable learning objectives
  • Responding to pupils’ diverse learning needs
  • Overcoming potential barriers to learning, closing gaps and assessment for individuals and groups of pupils.
