Notes

Having accumulated over 15 years of experience across Adult Mental Health, Elderly Mental Health and Adult Social Care services, I think I bring a lot to the role of Home Manager at Mellish House. I’ve spent the last six years in management roles and I currently hold SVQ Levels 3 and 4 in Adult Health & Social Care, I’m also about to undertake my QCF Level 5.

I have always had a passion for caring and have personal experience of needing to access good care and support. Because of this, I always try to apply my understanding to my role, both through the outstanding levels of care I expect from my brilliant Care Team and when providing reassurance to the relatives of those in my care. I think it’s important to place residents at the heart of everything that happens here, and I value their feedback on all aspects of life at Mellish House.

I’m happy to go above and beyond for those I work with, having previously helped to raise thousands of pounds to purchase items that have had a positive impact on our residents’ lives, including a wheelchair power pack for someone to get out and about, an electronic massage bed to help with MS symptoms and a wardrobe full of clothes for someone who lost all their belongings in a house fire.

I grew up in the local area and am delighted to have settled back here at Mellish House, having spent the previous eight years living and working in Scotland. I am already enjoying the close-knit community life of Sudbury and nearby Great Waldingfield where I now live.

Away from work I enjoy reading and spending time with my two teenage sons, as well as the rest of my family. I also love music, festivals, exercise and socialising with my friends.

Notes

Specialist care provision

Mellish House has been designed to meet the University of Stirling’s standards for dementia care, which are widely acknowledged as providing the best living environment for people living with dementia. Stirling’s Dementia Services Development Centre is renowned as the world leader in this field.

The Stirling approach ensures that residents are able to move freely around the home, with bedrooms and communal areas appropriately laid out and clearly signposted to minimise confusion or disorientation. Many bedrooms feature a memory box by the front door, where mementos from a resident’s life help to personalise their room and also remind staff and visitors of the individual’s life story.

Dementia care

We are ideally equipped to provide residential support for elderly people living with different types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and Korsacoff’s syndrome. However,  our staff never lose sight of the fact that, first and foremost, Mellish House is home to our residents. The home has a light, airy and welcoming ambience and residents benefit from a broad and thoroughly enjoyable range of activities.

Visiting us

At Mellish House, we operate an open visiting policy, where residents and loved ones may visit at convenient times.

Accreditation

As the Home Manager at Mellish House, I have a qualified care and management background. Our home is fully registered with the Care Quality Commission, with both ISO9001/2000 and Hospitality Assured accreditation.
