Halesworth Day Nursery

Day nursery

Halesworth Day Nursery is a family owned business set in an old school building in the small market town of Halesworth. Our community offers a range of opportunities and amenities which we often draw upon. It is our local fruit and vegetable shop who often provide food produce for the children to enjoy at nursery during snack and meal times and we regularly enjoy visits to the park, woodland and shops. We are also fortunate to be close to our local library, with whom we have built a close relationship - we often signpost our parents to the facilities and groups on offer as well as visiting regularly ourselves during session.

The nursery is open Monday – Friday, 8am – 6pm for 51 weeks a year, providing childcare for children aged 3 months - 5 years old. The nursery offers 52 places per day and we offer flexible sessions to suit most families. We are a driven and passionate team who are dedicated to helping children to reach their full potential, ensuring a high standard throughout all aspects of the setting. All staff hold relevant qualifications ranging from Level 3 to BA Hons, and our Deputy Manager also holds EYPS. Two members of the team are qualified Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator's and are committed to supporting the setting in recognising and meeting children's additional needs. We are an inclusive setting who welcome and celebrate all backgrounds, culture, religion and needs.

The nursery has three indoor play spaces and benefits from a spacious front concrete play area as well as an enclosed back garden. These outdoor areas provide a safe space for children extend upon their play, discovery and learning whilst engaging in a range of outdoor experiences.

We strongly value our relationships with parents and view them as their child’s first and most influential educators. Children are at the heart of all that we do and we actively seek their views during activity and play, staff tune in to children’s reactions, emotions and behaviour to determine whether we are providing an enabling and appropriately challenging learning environment for every unique child.

Support for people with disabilities

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

We provide an inclusive setting where all children and families with special educational needs and disabilities are welcomed and valued. We have a qualified Special Educational Need Coordinator (SENCo) who draws upon training, experience, knowledge and resources to ensure we are able to meet SEND needs successfully. Access to the nursery is via a slope at the front of the building allowing access to everyone, we also have a disabled toilet and nappy changing facilities.
Our commitment to working in partnership with parents/families enables us to understand and meet children’s individual needs quickly and effectively during the settling-in process, particularly those with SEND. We recognise parents of children with SEND as a hub of information and aim to work with them to better understand their child’s needs and how we can meet them.
We have a well constructed SEND Policy which is reviewed regularly and followed by all staff within the nursery, it is also available to parents at all times. Our team of nursery practitioners, leaders and managers are particularly experienced in working with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Downs Syndrome, Speech, Language and Communications Difficulties and Global Developmental Delay. All staff are trained in the use of Makaton and signs and symbols are used daily by staff and children. Other specific training gained is ‘Behaviour, understanding why?’ and ‘PECS’ training.
We adopt a solution focused approach and believe through making reasonable adjustments, taking time to learn and most importantly keeping the child at the heart of all decisions we can ensure that all children with SEND can access and benefit from their time within our nursery.
