Suffolk Family Carers is a charity based in Claydon that works with Family Carers across Suffolk, providing support and guidance.
A Family Carer is someone of any age whose life is restricted because they are looking after another person who cannot manage without help because of illness, age related frailty, mental health need, substance misuse or disability.
Family Carers are not paid and do not always live with the person they care for. They may be caring for a friend, neighbour or relative.
The Talk and Support Telephone Befriending Service matches fully trained volunteers with Family Carers
- who are isolated with a minimal support system
- who are caring for someone with little or no conversation (either because they have lost their power of speech or have communication problems)
- whose caring role is extremely difficult, and would benefit from extra support
The volunteer will make regular phone calls to the Family Carer.
