Martlesham Preschool

Preschool

PLEASE DO GET IN TOUCH FOR IMMEDIATE START

Martlesham Preschool has been around for over 30 years, and you can find us in a brightly coloured building at the end of Deben Ave, Martlesham. The preschool is run by a voluntary committee which work very closely with our manager, Nicola, our deputy manager, Danielle and a small team of Early Years Practitioners. Our staff have fantastic parent partnership relationships which we feel is incredibly important to provide the best possible outcomes for children and their families.

Garden:

We have a garden with a lovely canopy for shelter. We have a grass area and a patio area. Our garden is set up each day to meet the needs of the children. The garden has a wonderful mud kitchen, bikes, sand and water, sensory play and plus MUCH MORE!

At the end of the Summer term we organise an end of term party for everyone celebrating school leavers who are graduating. Our fund-raising team organises many events throughout the year, eg. Our successful fun day. We are a very friendly, supportive and experienced preschool!

Support for people with disabilities

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

We provide an environment in which all children are supported to reach their full potential.  We have regard for the DFES Special Educational Needs Code of Practice 2015 and the Disability and Discrimination Act 1995 (Equality Act 2010).

We include all children who attend the setting in our provision, making adaptations where necessary.

We provide highly skilled practitioners to support children with special educational needs and disabilities.  We identify the specific needs of children and meet those needs using a range of strategies.

Our staff use Wellcomm assessments and Makaton, we have a “sign of the week” where all of our children can learn a new sign and share with their families at home.

Our SENCo (special educational needs co-ordinator) is Carol Lupton.  And our Deputy SENCo is Nicola Cobb.

Our SENCo  is the best person to talk to if you have any concerns regarding your child’s development.

Carol has previously worked in Family Support and Child Health and is also a key person within the setting.    You can contact Carol using our preschool email address or telephone number should you have any further questions regarding the support we provide. You can also view our Special Educational Needs policy on our website for further information.

Nicola (manager) is our Lead Safeguarding Officer with Danielle (Deputy Manager) as our Deputy Safeguarding Officer.  Our Safeguarding policy is available to view on our website.

We often work with outside agencies to support children with additional needs and implement strategies and activities as required.  In these circumstances we always work closely with the parents and make sure they are kept up to date and involved in the plans we have put in place and that we have their consent.  We work using the Graduated Approach, further information is included in our Special Educational Needs Policy.  Please find below a short paragraph taken from our policy.

Graduated Approach

Initial Identification and Support (Identifying Special Educational Needs)

· Ongoing formative assessment forms a part of a continuous process for observing, assessing, planning and reviewing children’s progress

· Children identified as having difficulty with one or more area of development should be given support by applying simple strategies and resources.

· For most children application of some simple differentiation approaches will be enough to build confidence and help develop, 9.12a SEN support: Initial record of concern form can be used for this purpose.

· If despite applying differentiated strategies a child continues to struggle and is showing significantly more difficulty with learning for their stage of development or has a disability which requires specific adjustments, then the key person should raise a concern with the setting’s SENCo/setting manager and the child’s parents.

We strongly believe in working in partnership with parents and carers and regularly keep our families up to date using online learning journeys, we offer regular parent consultations and an end of year report.  Martlesham Preschool follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum to plan and provide a range of activities across the 7 areas of learning and development.

Through the key person system, each child’s learning is tailored to their specific need and interests.  At Martlesham we use an online app called Tapestry.  Both key person and parents can share their child’s learning and development through this.

Our preschool committee regularly hold meetings and all staff and parents are welcome to attend.

Your child will be invited to attend a settling in session where you will be introduced to your child’s key person.  We also ask you to fill out an “all about me” booklet to help give us an insight into your child’s interests at home. We also offer home visits where beneficial to the children and their families.

We look forward to welcoming you to Martlesham Preschool.
