SUPPORTING FAMILIES AND PEOPLE WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES

Ipswich Mencap is governed by Royal Mencap policies by way of membership. We are a local voluntary charity in our own right supporting local people. Every penny raised stays local for the benefit of local people and their families.

Ipswich Mencap is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and registered with the charity commission.

All volunteers are DBS checked and have additional training in the care field.

We have a helpline service between 9am to 9pm

Notes

Ipswich Mencap runs the TWO M's, a social club for people with learning disabilities on Tuesday evenings 6 - 8pm at Rushmere Community Hub. Humberdoucy Lane.

There is a wide variety of activities and great theme nights. We also have use of the sensory room during this time. Subs are just £5 per week with additional money for raffle tickets and tuck shop.

No referral required just turn up

Age range is from school age upwards but they must be supported by a parent/carer.

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

As volunteers offering support to parent/carers we work closely with SEND and other organisations as required.

Training for volunteers is not required as there is not direct contact with members however some volunteers have first aid, fire safety, food hygiene and moving & handling training.

All volunteers are covered by national Mencap policies.

We are also fully insured.
