The Porch Project aims to support young people’s: physical, mental, social and educational well-being. We don’t work in isolation, our youth workers and mentors work closely with a range of partner organisations and agencies to provide joined up and integrated support if and when young people need it.
The project currently engages with over 600 young people in Hadleigh and the surrounding areas through its social activities, learning and support programmes, school visits and street work.
We run additional programs throughout the year:
VENTURE is our outdoor survival skills and adventure program open to everyone. The focus is on enabling any ability and level so that everyone comes together and learns as one. Working in a 200 acre woodland we run sessions teaching a multitude of outdoor skills and raising peoples confidence in the outdoors to encourage them to be more active and have a closer connection to the natural world. This program culminates in an overnight camp where participants use their newly learned skills to survive for an evening on Mersea Island.
HORIZONS is our career aspirations and job skills program. We run trips to different work sectors and offer a hands on look at different options for entering the world of work. This program also involves money management , CV writing workshops, interview skills and a focus on raising aspirations.
SHIFT-M is our "shifting MENtalities" program that aims to reach young men at an early intervention stage to promote a better relationship with their mental health and well-being. Exploring topics that affect and shape young men through the teenage years. We currently run a 6 week program within a secondary school.
INSPIRATIONS is our focus group for young women. Exploring topics that resonate with young women and helping them build confidence and self-esteem through a range of social activities, trips out and inspirational talks. It is a place to meet new friends and learn new skills.
