Continence Service (East Coast Community Healthcare CIC)
The Continence Nursing Team in the East Coast Community Healthcare area assesses adult men and women with urinary and faecal continence problems. The service also assesses children over the age of 4 who have additional needs. A full holistic assessment will be carried out, a treatment and management plan will be agreed and review will take place as clinically needed.
The team also provide a LUTS (lower urinary tract service) for men. During the LUTS consultation, the specialist nurse will conduct a full assessment, a flow rate and residual scan, as per the NICE guidance (2010). The results will be interpreted and a full report sent to the referring GP.
Products for the containment of incontinence can only be provided following an assessment using the approved tool and documentation. Interventions to promote continence should be tried first where appropriate.
Patients will receive a comprehensive assessment of their needs. An individualised programme of care will then be discussed and agreed. A treatment or management plan will then be implemented.
Home visits are provided by this service for housebound patients.
Interpretation and translation services can be arranged by staff, for users of this service.
