Music Builds Communities

MBC

Music Builds Communities (MBC) has been running since 2010 providing opportunities locally for children, young people and adults to engage with and enjoy making music:
- learning together a range of instruments which have included guitar, ukulele, flute, fife, accordion, boomwhackers and djembe drums

- singing together with a sing-a-long accompanied by acoustic guitars

- playing together by offering opportunities for beginners, and more experienced instrumentalists to play jazz on a range of instruments, and an electric guitar group

- performing together at our own events or by supporting other local events

This is achieved by
-occasional Saturday sessions and midweek evening events
- led by experienced, enthusiastic and committed volunteers
-at suitable venues

Notes

Community Music group for all ages. Previous activities (under review) include - guitar for beginners - ukulele for beginners - flute for beginners - fife for beginners - accordion for beginners - choir -  "Fun singing" for Children - Band for experienced instrumentalists (e.g. brass and woodwind). Instruments could be borrowed. Sessions were normally held Saturday afternoons 2-4pm (2 sessions). No pre-booking was required (but does not take place in School holidays or half terms -- check website). Normally in Exning Community Church Hall.

Current activities are:

"Singing for Fun" usually monthly on 3rd Wednesdays (check website). An informal evening of Pop, Rock, Showtunes, and Folk. The format of the evening is a “sing a long” accompanied on acoustic guitars, with words provided on a screen.

Electric Guitars is currently reviewing its session arrangements. A chance for experienced guitarists to play together. We'd also welcome keyboard players and drummers.

MBC Band meets fortnightly in term time on Sunday mornings in Cheveley Village Hall.  We are open to all instrumentalists of grade 1+ standard who can sight-read easy music. This is a low-pressure, friendly group that will help you to improve your playing in an ensemble environment, with repertoire ranging from Stravinsky to the Spice Girls. Rehearsals are every fortnight in term time, and each year there may be one or two concerts to show off your progress.

Although MBC is based in Exning we have participants from Newmarket and the surrounding villages .......and beyond.
