Stour Valley Community Archaeology
Stour Valley Community Archaeology (SVCA) aims to provide opportunities for field walking and excavation in the same geographic area. Volunteers can learn not only archaeological skills, but also more about their local area, whilst working as part of a friendly, supportive team.
Stour Valley Community Archaeology hopes to run an annual winter fieldwalking event, followed by test pitting or trench based excavation every summer. Both sessions would span several days, thus giving opportunities for a wide range of volunteers to be involved, including local schools.
No previous archaeological experience is necessary as supervision will be given, and for those who are unable to wield a trowel there will be plenty of other ways in which to participate.
Practical archaeology is a great way to be active, meet new people and to develop interests in our local heritage.
