Artists background: Christopher Ryland was born in 1951 in Sussex and is a painter and printmaker, and also lectures in Art and Design. After gaining a degree at Goldsmith's College School of Art, he joined a group of community artists and worked on a series of public and environmental arts projects, painting large-scale murals. In 1994 he moved to Sudbury in Suffolk where he runs art courses from his studio, and in May 1995 he was elected a member of the Society of Botanical Artists. He exhibits at The John Russell Gallery in Ipswich and at the SBA annual exhibitions at the Mall Galleries in London where he won the President's Award in 2001 and the St.Cuthbert's Mill Award in 2007.
