- Notes
To represent the interests of allotment holders at the local political level [where planning proposals may affect the continued availability of allotment sites - a hot topic at present In this connection The Society has 'Partnership meetings' with the Town Clerk and the staff who deal with Allotments, and from time to time meets the Allotments Committee of the Town Council. These meetings iron out small problems and enable the flow of views and information. To bring together Plotholders and gardeners for support, education and social functions, which are often combined. During the winter months, Sept to April we have a series of Winter Meetings with speakers, and the Annual Meeting is in March. We have competitions with Scarecrows, the biggest Pumpkin, and a Produce Show, usually combined with a barbecue/picnic. The Society has recently acquired a plot at Cowpasture which has a very good, big shed in which it is possible to hold modest meetings and gatherings. This facility will be developed as time goes on. Membership is approaching 200, but does not yet include every plotholder.
