Support for people with disabilities
- Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities
Houldsworth Valley is an inclusive School where diversity is welcomed and celebrated. All staff firmly believe and are committed to ensuring every child is provided with the personalised opportunities they need to achieve his or her full potential.
Every child at Houldsworth Valley follows the National Curriculum and is provided with Quality First Teaching. Some children may require extra support to allow them to achieve their potential, and this is where our SEND support is offered.
We are committed to narrowing the attainment gap between SEND and non-SEND pupils. This may include individual one-to-one support and/or small group interventions with a dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistant, Classroom Learning Support Assistant or Teacher. It may also include other learning or behavioural interventions developed on a personalised, ‘individual needs’ basis. We frequently review and assess the effectiveness of our interventions to ensure progress is being made and make changes where necessary.
Our Learning Support Team have relevant training in a range of interventions including ‘Bear Necessities’, ‘Toe by Toe’, Phonics, Nurture, Mentoring and we work closely and liaise with a number of other agencies including Speech and Language, School Nursing Service, Early Help Team, Health Workers, Learning Support, Outreach Services and others.
Regular meetings are held with Teachers, children, parents and Learning Support colleagues to establish targets and next steps at least every half term.
