General Details

Hello and welcome to Little Stars!

Little Stars has been established for 19 years and is Ofsted regulated and inspected.

Our aim is to provide a happy, safe and stimulating environment for all children within our care. We have an excellent friendly team of staff who together have many years experience and qualifications between them and have been working at Little Stars for a number of years.

We provide a wide range of activities, equipment and resources and we have both an inside and outside play area available for all of the children to access on a regular basis. We have a large inside hall, an enclosed outside grassed area and also an enclosed paved area to enable the children to develop and to learn through all areas of play.

We provide a range of healthy drinks and snacks and if your child has any dietary requirements then please let us know so that we can ensure that all staff are aware of your child's needs.

Within the preschool we follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum) and we ensure that all children who attend have a wonderful "Learning Journey". Your child's Learning Journey is a wonderful record of your child's time at Little Stars and includes observations, photographs and examples of your child's work which captures lots of wonderful memories and those special times! If you would like to see your child's Learning Journey at any time they are available for you to see, please just ask.

We operate a Key-Person system that provides a good link between parent/carer, child and staff member and your child's key-person once allocated is available to speak too at any time. If for any reason your child's keyperson is unavailable a suitable time for both parties will be made.

All staff, students and volunteers have had DBS (Disclosure & Barring service) checks to say that they are able to work with children and all staff are 1st aid trained in a 12 hours Paediatric 1st aid qualification. All staff have attended Safeguarding training and all staff attend regular update training and workshops in a variety of subjects.

Our setting has a SENCO and deputy SENCO (Special educational needs co-ordinator) who are available at all times to help and support parents and can signpost to other professionals and agencies if needed.

At Little Stars we like to organise trips and outings and we love parents to come along too as this enables parents to meet and chat with other parents of similar age children. We accept children in nappies as we have full changing facilities and we can help and support children and parents with potty training if required.

If you would like any further information or would like to arrange a visit then please do not hesitate to get in touch and we look forward to welcoming you and your family to Little Stars.

Thank you.

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

At Little Stars we welcome all children and their families. Our setting SENCO and deputy SENCO are available to help and support all children and parents who attend our setting. We are also very committed to helping and guiding parents to further help and support for their from other agencies and professionals.

We have very close links with all of our surrounding schools and we ensure that children have a smooth transition to their new schools when it becomes time for them to leave and move on.

As an established preschool we have lots of experience with SEN and we feel it’s very important that all children are happy, supported and are included so that they can learn to enable them to reach their full potential. We are able to adapt our setting to meet the needs of the children and we accept advice from other professionals that the child is already working with to provide the best start.

Our staff training and qualification include:

SENCO (5 x 3.5 hour training sessions)

Makaton training level 1-4

Level 1 BSL (British sign language)

An introduction to Autism course

Cochlear implant training

Disability awareness

BRISC (speech & language) assessment training

Dyspraxia awareness

The setting also has lots of visual and SEN resources including a visual timetable that can be used for the setting routines or to make choices and also we have the WIJET (pictures that are used as a communication tool) software.

One staff member is a former committee member of the local NAS (National Autistic society) and is able to signpost parents/carers to the drop-in support groups that are local to our setting.

Couldn't praise enough!
My son was with little stars just over a year and a half, ever since day one I've felt comfortable and accepted by staff, being unwell I needed support in certain areas. I was worried it would affect a relationship with the staff. My son loved the pre school. Every day he would tell me the wonderful fun things he achieved there. He is truly gutted we have had to leave ( due to distance) I couldn't reccomend little stars enough. Everyone has always been so friendly and kind to us as a family. I can't  thank them all enough.  Submitted: 16/07/2019
Wonderful setting where my child flourished.
Firstly I looked around plenty of pre schools and nursery’s before I  chose Little Stars but none of them quite compared to Little Stars and after two years of my daughter attending I’d pick them again in a heart beat! Little Stars is run by a very dedicated team, they have shown that they truly cared for my daughter and actually for our family. Support is second to none and you can ask for support and advice as needed with absolutely no judgement, just guidance.  My daughter was exceptionally shy when she began Little stars and over the last two years she has flourished and gained loads of confidence, I feel that they have set her up for the best start in regards to moving on to primary school. Activities are varied and engaging, my daughter loved it, activities were based inside and outside and she was never bored!  My daughter and myself built up really good relationships with the team and I’m actually sad we have to leave!  I highly recommend! Simply outstanding!  Submitted: 16/07/2019
Awesome Team
This was firet nursery I took my 2 year old twins to visit and they loved it.  3 months on their speach is amazing, 1 of them did not really speak before that.  They have such a big family vibe about them which is awesome. From the 1st visit you are made to feel very welcome.  Well Done Allison, Kim & Neville.  Submitted: 17/07/2019
