The Granary Nursery School
Day nursery

Set in a stunning rural location, the children at the Granary benefit from wide open spaces, large outdoor play areas as well as access to a large woodland area (where we visit almost daily and carry out 'Forest School' type activities) and a working farm. With a large range of outdoor play equipment and wheeled toys such as tractors, the children often replicate what they see happening on the farm. We are Ofsted registered with consistently 'Good' outcomes. The staff are all qualified in childcare and first aid and have a wealth of experience-many have worked at the nursery for many years, this offers great stability to our families. We are very much a child led nursery - staff are adept at supporting, scaffolding and developing play, learning and individual interests. We have strong links with local schools and offer supported transitions to Reception classes to a wide number of primary schools in the locality.

Since October 2018 we have offered a Baby/Toddler group open to all on Wednesday afternoons from 1:15-2:45pm. Everyone welcome from newborns to pre-schoolers. Two members of nursery staff run the sessions and are on hand for a chat as well as to manage the adult led weekly craft / activity and mid session snack. Mums, Dads, Carers, Grandparents - all welcome to come along at any time during the session to join in. Costs £1.50 per child, first session free. Tea/coffee etc on offer to adults and a drink/snack for children. Take the opportunity to look around the setting, ask any questions and experience some of the facilities on offer. Each month a Healthy Child Practitioner attends the session to offer parents a chance to have their child weighed or for a chat / advice. Woodland / outdoor activities will also be available in the summer months.
Over the past few years we have been offering some holiday clubs for children aged from 2-8 years. These are organised and staffed by qualified term time staff and offer a fun packed timetable of activities with a large focus on outdoor activities utilising the adjacent woodland area. Hot lunch is included in the day rate. Contact the nursery for up to date information.
Allie the owner and manager and one of the nursery practitioners are now qualified Level 3 Forest School Leaders and run weekly sessions in the woods for the nursery children. Over the coming months we hope to develop this further to be able to offer more outdoor play and learning sessions for babies, toddlers and pre schoolers.
Allie has also completed an EYPDP course provided by the Department for Education which focuses on development of language and communication skills. The training has been shared with the whole team and we have now received Communication Friendly Setting accreditation. Allie accesses monthly Communities of Practice meetings to share and develop practice (with a focus on Communication and Language) with other local settings.
Our SENCO is currently accessing additional intensive Level 3 training on which will continue for the next few months, and help us to better support children with additional needs in our setting.
In September 2022 we had our latest OFSTED Inspection, at the end of which we were awarded an OUTSTANDING rating.

An amazing setting providing fantastic childcare! Rated 5 out of 5
My son was lucky enough to attend the Granary for 2 terms from January 2013, before leaving to attend Primary School. He couldn't have had a better introduction to 'school life'. The setting itself is on a working farm, surrounded by fields and woods...perfect for children who love tractors, the outdoors and exploring the world around them. The Granary is well resourced with carefully selected resources to suit the different ages and needs of all the children attending. It boosts a fantastic selection of indoor and outdoor play equipment, which the children are encouraged to access with independence. A joy for me as a parents was the way staff always embraced different weather types, for example dressing up in puddles suits to splash about in the rain, or creating Snow Angels in the snow!! I always found all members of staff to be very positive towards all children, and they always welcomed my son, into a stimulating environment. Another bonus, is the wonderful hot dinners that the on site cook, creates daily using locally sourced produce.... delicious, my son still asks for Shepherds Pie the Granary way! All in all, a fantastic setting, which I cant rate highly enough!
A fantastic nursery Rated 5 out of 5
Our son loves the days he spends at the Granary, a nursery on a working farm. The staff are welcoming and the children can spend plenty of time playing outside. The food is delicious and I would highly recommend it as somewhere to give your child a great start.
5 stars isn't enough! Rated 5 out of 5
My daughter first attended The Granary in 2011 at the age of two and a half. She was a very shy little girl when she arrived, but 'the Granary ladies' got the best out of her and it was a real pleasure to see her blossom under their guidance. We had a year's break while my middle son was too young to attend, but as soon as he was old enough he joined the caterpillar class and has become a confident, sociable boy and starting a primary school in a different catchment area didn't phase him at all! My youngest is in his last year now at the Granary and I will be heart broken to have to say goodbye for the final time! All of my children have spent their days there in the best care possible while I was at work teaching. My children have participated in ballet, yoga, swimming, sports days, Christmas productions and visits to the castle. They have had the firemen come to visit and been to look at Farmer John's tractors. My son's medication and food allergies have always been a priority to the staff and nothing has ever been too much trouble for them. As another parent has said, my children ate amazingly well too and they will now try all sorts of different food. Granary macaroni cheese still can't be made the same way at home though! If you want an holistic environment that focuses on your child's strengths and achievements and pushes them to achieve in all areas of their development, then I can't recommend The Granary Highly enough!
Best Nursery in the area Rated 5 out of 5
The Granary is an excellent nursery. Every element of its care and provision is delivered with a very high standard of knowledge and experience. This is down to the great leadership and sense of commitment the staff all have. I have had my son attend for two years and my daughter has just started on her Granary journey. The staff are friendly, caring and maintain high expectations for the children, not just for their academic learning but for their personal development too. My son formed many happy friendships during his time, ate lots of yummy food, experienced many things from the farm and never had a bad word to say about any of his days there, he misses it now and often recalls memories. It is a pleasure to have such a brilliant nursery locally that embraces everything yet has a cosy and family feel.
Lovely nursery in fabulous location Rated 5 out of 5
The Granary is a fantastic nursery in a stunning setting on a working farm. The staff are warm and welcoming and my daughter settled in wonderfully and really looks forward to her two days a week at nursery. A wide range of activities are provided including lots of outdoor play and exploration. I'm particularly happy with the gentle and child-led approach to caring for the little ones, and the menus and snacks are high quality and varied. I recommend The Granary very highly.
My twin boys love this nursery Rated 5 out of 5
When we moved to the area in 2015 one of our main concerns was finding a fantastic nursery that could take our twin boys for a couple of days a week. They had been used to a countryside setting and this nursery fitted the bill perfectly, being situated in lovely premises on a farm site with neighbouring woods. The staff have all been great and happy to discuss any issues/concerns parents may be having with their children. They always seem happy to work with parents at the pace the child and parent are wanting to progress - for example with potty training etc. My boys love learning about the outside world, wildlife and taking part in various crafts as well as spending time on local walks and in the outside play area. The meals are wholesome and nutritious and there are lots of opportunities for activities such as swimming, ballet and yoga. They always look forward to going and are full of hugs and smiles when we collect them. I would not hesitate to highly recommend this nursery.
Amazing Nursery !!! Rated 5 out of 5
My son goes to the granary however is leaving this year to go to primary school. The team at the granary have helped him soo much with every part of his education and getting him ready for that next step into school. They are all very welcoming when dropping off and picking up your child. My son suffers with febrile convulsions, Allie and the team work very closely with myself to ensure he is safe and happy and if anything was to happen while at school I know he will be very well looked after. My sons key worker is the best and I can’t not thank her enough for everything she has done for my son. I will 100 percent be using this nursery when my daughter gets old enough to attend :)
Could not recommend enough Rated 5 out of 5
The Granary offers children a safe, fun and welcoming place to grow and learn. My little boy can’t wait to see his key worker and Granary team every day. Staff are experienced, friendly and great communicators from day to day updates to more formal regular updates via tapestry. The activities are endless, your child will blossom there. I highly recommend The Granary.
Fantastic place for child with additional needs Rated 5 out of 5
Our son has been at The Granary since he was 2 years old. He has complex food allergies, and also issues with asthma but The Granary are so accommodating. We can be confident in leaving him for the day knowing he is well looked after, and has a good home cooked meal at lunch! We are also very impressed with the swimming classes available, and our son has shown fantastic progress in just a few short weeks. Would 100% recommend The Granary and will definitely be sending our daughter here next year as well
Perfect Rated 5 out of 5
Our son loves his days at The Granary, all the team there are super friendly & helpful, he wakes up in the morning and asks if he's going to school that day.He eats really well there and we can see a difference in how much he picks up everyday. Perfect surroundings for kids with the woodland walks and the tractors they can watch on a daily basis. I have 2 older kids and this is by far the best nursery I have come across, Lucky & privilaged to have our son there.
