As the Home Manager at Hillside Care Home, I lead a professional team in providing the highest standards of residential care for up to 44 residents. I started my care career in 1990 working as a carer and was quickly promoted to senior carer. During my time in this role I noticed ways in which I could improve the home and benefit my residents, this made me want to make a difference, so I enrolled in a management course at college. After completing my course I successfully applied for a deputy manager position and I have now been a Care Home Manager for over 20 years.
I have the qualifications to manage, however I feel there is more needed in this role. My mother had dementia and I know what it is like to see a loved one deteriorate, and the impact this has on family and friends. This has given me an insight into what is important, and I use this every day to support residents and families in all areas of their care.
I feel very fortunate to be doing a job that I love, every day is different, there is the opportunity to make a difference and the residents always manage to bring a smile to my face.
Supporting and developing the team around me is also important to me, as this enhances the resident’s lives and drives outstanding care, so they can have the most fulfilled lives possible. They also support me, so we can make changes effectively to deliver the highest standards of care.
Outside of work my best times of my life are when I get my four children together, as two live abroad. I love travelling and go every year with my daughters. I also have two rescue dogs who bring countless joy in my life.

At Hillside we also benefit from a close working relationship with our sister home, Mellish House, located next door. Mellish House provides specialist residential support for people living with dementia.
Our two homes provide a continuous care pathway offering elderly residents, their families and loved ones, the peace of mind afforded by knowing that changing care needs can be catered for at a single location.
We operate an open visiting policy at Hillside, so residents and loved ones may visit at the times that are convenient for them.
As the Home Manager at Hillside, I ensure that every member of our Care Team receives the ongoing training they need to do their jobs. This enables our Team to build on the excellent reputation we have earned for high quality care provision.
Our home is fully registered with the Care Quality Commission, with both ISO9001/2000 and Hospitality Assured accreditation.
