Lorraine Cattermole
Childminder
I offer a friendly family atmosphere; I offer a well-stocked playroom with a large variety of bright and diverse toys for all ages. I encourage children to be involved in activities that will help them to achieve their early years goals. We enjoy playing outside in the garden and going to the local park which is only a very short distance away. We encourage social interaction by attending various toddler and childminder drop in groups. I hold current certificates in First Aid, Birth to Three, Child Protection, Food Hygiene and I am now embarking on my NVQ 3 certificate. I am a very friendly person and I am happy to discuss your child’s needs.

Support for people with disabilities
- Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities
SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND DISABILITY (SEND POLICY)
As a Registered Childminder, I aim to follow the requirements of the EYFS (2014) and the Childcare Register (2012) and provide an inclusive environment for ALL children and their families. I am also required to comply with the requirements of the Equality Act (2010) and the SEND(special educational needs and disabilities) code of practice (2014).
I have therefore put the following procedure in place:
IF I THINK THE CHILD HAS A SPECIAL NEED AND/OR DISABILITY I WILL:
- Use the 2 year progress check to highlight if I believe a child is falling behind in any areas of the prime areas of learning.
With parental permission I will:
- Contact the area SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) through the FIS (Family Information Service).
- Discuss what support is available.
- Support each child through observation, regular assessment and individual planned activities to achieve their full potential.
WHEN CARING FOR ALL CHILDREN I WILL:
- Value and acknowledge children's individuality and help them feel good about themselves, focusing on the positive things that each child can do.
- Seek information from parents about the child's routines, their likes&dislikes, family culture/religion/beliefs.
- I will review their care plan every half term.
- Provide individual support depending on the child's needs.
- Adapting activities to enable ALL children to take part by providing a wide range of resources and activities which reflect the diversity of our local area and further afield.
- Lead by example and challenge any form of prejudice.
- Encourage children's confidence and independence and respect each other as individuals.
- I will risk assess to ensure the safety of a child with special educational needs whilst continuing to supervise other children in my care.
- Attend appropriate training to ensure I have the skills and knowledge needed to support children and their families.
If i believe a child needs additional support I will speak to parents and ask their permission to approach agencies which will support their child. I will follow the graduated approach laid out in the department for education SEND code of practice to ensure every child receives the best possible care and learning development.
