Acute Oncology Service (James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust)
The James Paget Acute Oncology Service provides a haematology and an oncology - 24 hour nurse-led telephone advice services for haematology / oncology patients who may be experiencing complications from treatment or from the cancer itself.
Haematology patients calling the Haematology AOS line, have direct access to the haematology ward, when required, or to medical advice by a local haematologist on call.
Oncology patients, triaged via the 24 hour mobile phone service, will be treated dependant on the outcome of the phone assessment. They will either be given advice, advised to contact their GP practice/’111’, reviewed in the day unit, or admission arranged via the front door services. There is, in place, rapid access pathways for the treatment of patients with suspected neutropenic sepsis 24/7 and other oncological emergencies.
Interpretation and Translation services are available through this service.
