Rattlesden Preschool

Pre-School Playgroup
General Details

Rattlesden Playgroup was established in 1970, and became Rattlesden Preschool in 2019. Preschool firmly believes in learning through play. We are affiliated to the Pre-school Learning Alliance and work in partnership with Suffolk County Council. We are listed in the List of Providers. Parents form the committee which is the registered provider. We take part in community events, such as Fireworks or the Duck race.

We link with the local school, attending their harvest assemblies and nativity plays. We also join the reception class at least once a term. We work closely with the Early years and childcare service to help support children with Additional Needs.

We use Tapestry, an online learning journal to enable parents to see their child's records and also allow for a smooth transition to Primary School. Evaluations are completed online and parents can add comments.

We have also added a Facebook page which shows our activities and provides updates of forthcoming events.

We have a new website now up and running.

We encourage our children to "think outside the box" and to be creative. Learning through play allows children to explore their world.

You are welcome to visit us to see us in action. Please get in touch. We provide 'taster sessions' to help you make up your mind.

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

We are a community preschool and aim to include all children within our community and those that wish to attend our setting.

We work closely with parents, carers and outside agencies and prepare an action plan to ensure that their child can access all areas of the curriculum.

We ensure that there is a smooth transition from home or a previous setting to our setting. We build on previous knowledge of the child and find out about the best practice for that child. We provide opportunities for parents and carers to visit our setting and we can also provide home visits. We ensure a smooth transition to the next setting by sharing information to ensure the continuous provision for the child.

If specialist equipment is needed, we work with local agencies to ensure that the child's needs are met.

We ensure that staff members receive training to be able to support the child.

Rattlesden Preschool have a qualified SENCO

Staff are trained in manual handling.

Staff have attended courses on  Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Behaviour Management, Working with under Twos.

All staff have up to date Paediatric First Aid Certificates and have been trained in the use of an Epipen.

Staff have Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificates.

We monitor speech and language development and work closely with the Speech and Language "drop in centres" and try to get early support for the children in our care. We use the WELLCOMM pack to help assess and support Speech and language.
