Through the Gate: Shared Reading to improve community rehabilitation
Shared Reading in Suffolk: A Through-the-Gate support programme
The aim of this innovative project is to provide a focused social activity for those recently released from custody.
“Shared Reading enables offenders to feel differently about themselves and others. Reading and reflecting together in a safe environment loosens default patterns of being and behaving, making it possible for offenders to believe in their own capacity to change.”
(Dr David Fearnley, former Medical Director for Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust)
The Reader is looking to recruit and train volunteers and partner organisation staff to set up and lead 7 Shared Reading groups.
