Support for people with disabilities

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

As a Primary and Nursery school we are fully inclusive and provide for a wide range of Special Educational Needs.  Our teaching staff and SENDCo are experienced and well qualified, and they are supported by a team of Teaching Assistants who have a wide range of expertise.  At our school we believe in early identification of any additional need.  We also believe that parents know their children best and that their contributions are essential.  Therefore they play a key part of the ‘Assess, Plan, Do and Review’ cycles to address any needs.  If appropriate a child is given an individual education plan which will ensure that they receive the correct intervention.  These plans are reviewed at least termly in consultation with parents and children, and inform termly Pupil Progress meetings and Parent Consultations.  Children with more significant SEND, and or Health and Social Care needs will be considered for an assessment for an Education, Health and Care Plan.   Transition is monitored closely and liaison between teachers and other providers is given high priority.  The approach to teaching, adaptations to curriculum and the learning environment are made on an individual basis to ensure all children have the best opportunities to make progress.  All staff are teachers of all children and therefore our training reflects the needs that arise which includes any pastoral or emotional support that is needed.

All children are individuals and develop in a range of different ways and on different timescales. Any concerns we might have regarding a child are discussed in person with parents as a first point of contact. If appropriate we seek further specialist advice and support for both parents and ourselves. We also work closely with outside agencies to provide specialist interventions and support where required. Parents are kept fully informed and involved at every step of the way. Please do not hesitate to contact the school to arrange a visit or for any further information. Please also see our website for further information.

The Nursery is run by a qualified teacher, Mrs Hopkins, who has experience supporting and teaching children with a wide range of needs in Early Years.  All children are very well supported in Nursery by our Nursery staff team.

Mrs Cooper is our School SENDCo (Special Educational Needs & Disability Co-ordinator).
