Support for people with disabilities

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

We at Bramfield Stepping Stones Pre-school pride ourselves in having a high adult /child ratio which enables us to give one to one attention to children that may have additional needs. We have an experienced Special Needs Coordinator (SENCo accredited) and all staff have regular training to keep us all up to date with procedures and current strategies. We have regular contact with many outside agencies which include, Health Visitors and Speech therapists etc.

Both our Supervisor and Deputy Supervisor have attended and completed Module 1-4 of MAKATON signing program. Our full time preschool assistant is due to also attend MAKATON training. MAKATON signing is a core part of all the preschool daily routines. We implemented MAKATON originally to support a child with Down's Syndrome, although it soon become apparent that it was really useful in supporting and building all the children's vocabulary.

We fully support children and their families through the SEN process. We are currently supporting children with Global Developmental Delay and Speech and Language Delay.

We welcome outside agencies into the setting and use their expertise to enhance our knowledge of the children's individual needs.

We utilise the Tapestry on line Learning journey to share all activities we offer with the children's families, and in turn this gives a platform for families to share their latest interests and development with the preschool. This information enables the staff to responsively plan activities to support and develop their child.

If it is possible we will strive to offer the most suitable member of staff as key person to suit the needs of the child and their family.
