Who does the service provide a service for?
The youth pathway is responsible for providing community mental healthcare to service users between 14 and 25 who require more specialist treatment than is available through the wellbeing service. The service aims to work together with young people to support recovery from mental health and to have the opportunities for best available treatment. In order to do this, for younger service users we would expect to include family members in all stages of care and treatment. We also encourage continued family involvement with over 18s in line with young people’s development, preferences and different legal expectations for adult service users.
The service would work inclusively of physical disability and are able to offer both disability accessible clinical buildings and community visits. The youth pathway aims to work , with the support of other specialist teams where necessary, which includes mental health care for young people with mild learning difficulties .
We are not able to provide a service to young people with moderate or severe learning disabilities and mental health difficulty. We have a specialist service to support these young people via Learning Disability Service (CAMHS) up to age 18.
How can I start using the service?
Referral to us is through the Emotional Wellbeing Hub, if you are currently receiving services from NSFT then those services may also be able to refer to the Youth Pathway Bury North Team. If your referral is appropriate for this service you can expect to be seen within 15 weeks for an initial assessment. Depending on your needs there may be a further wait for specific treatments but we will continue to stay in touch about your child or young person’s wellbeing.
How are decisions made about who can use the service?
When a child or young person’s referral is received by our team, dependent upon the information we have received we may contact you or the professional referrer to find out more about the young person’s situation before any decision is made about next steps.
Following this triage process, we will arrange for the child or young person to meet with a clinician for a face to face assessment. At a face to face assessment we will look to establish any mental health issues and what help is needed. We will do this with the young person and their parents/carers where appropriate.
Once the young person’s assessment has been completed, it will be discussed in the multi disciplinary team meeting which consists of different clinicians, Consultant Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Therapists and Mental Health Practitioners to plan what we need to do next and ensure the appropriate support is provided. We will keep the young person and their parents/carer informed and provide our contact details. The young person’s GP will also be informed.
If the referral is urgent we will make contact as soon as we can to discuss and plan next steps.
From the time of the referral into our team the child/young person can expect to be seen within 15 weeks.

How do you communicate with children, young people and parents/carers? How are they involved in decisions about the services you offer?
When we receive the referral from the Emotional Wellbeing Hub we will make contact by post to acknowledge receipt of the referral, giving our contact information. We will make contact by post or telephone to arrange a face to face appointment. At the first session an explanation tailored to the age of the child or young person, will be offered about the aims of the session and the limits of confidentiality.

Is your service fully accessible?
Any information we have we can have translated into your language if needed. We will provide interpretation when needed including sign language. We have a hearing loop. Our buildings are fully accessible with disabled toilet access. We will organise home visits where necessary to ensure access to our service.
What training have staff supporting children and young people with SEND had or are having.
Our staff have a range of skills and approaches which wherever possible matched with the needs of children and young people. All staff are required to undergo
