Pharmacies and some banks in Suffolk provide Safe Spaces in their consultation rooms for people experiencing domestic abuse Find a Safe Space in Suffolk

How to access a Safe Space in a pharmacy or bank

  • Walk into any participating safe space in the UK
  • Ask a member of staff at the counter to use their safe space
  • You will be shown to the Safe Space which will be a private room
  • Once inside you can use the safe space in whichever way works for you. They provide a safe and discreet way to reach out to friends and family, contact specialist support services and start your journey to recovery.

The Ask for ANI (‘Action Needed Immediately’) scheme operates alongside Safe Spaces in pharmacies. Anyone who is suffering from or fearful of domestic abuse can ask for ANI, and they will be guided to a safe and private space and offered support to call the police.

Suffolk libraries provide Safe spaces for anyone suffering domestic abuse. Anyone, whether they are experiencing domestic abuse themselves, or if they’re worried about someone else, can speak to someone in the library in confidence and be referred to the organisations who can support them. A visit to the library may offer someone the chance to get away from their abuser and so provide an ideal opportunity to speak to someone. Find a library near you

Safe Places National Network: A Safe Place offers help if someone is anxious, scared or at risk while they are out and about and need support.  Find a Safe Place near you (Cambridgeshire only at present)

Get help Don't keep what is happening to you a secret. You have nothing to be ashamed of, and the longer the abuse goes on, the harder it gets to take some action. Talk to someone you trust or contact an organisation for support.

If you're in immediate danger you should always call 999.

Silent Solution:  If speaking or making a sound would put you in danger and you need immediate help, call 999 and stay on the line, then press 55 when prompted, and the call will be transferred to the police who will know it is an emergency call.
