Helping Hands Service/Lightwave Cafe - Foodbank

photo

LightWave cafe is a community charity providing a safe space for people to gather, chat and seek support. The Helping Hands Service runs within the cafe and the foodbank is one of the outreach projrcts it provides.

The need has grown during lockdown. After lockdown, it soon became apparent that support would still be needed to continue.

We provide food parcels for any household in need, due to job loss from the pandemic, single parent, mental health clients, Domestic Violence families, those on benefits or the elderly and isolated.

We operate out of a 40ft container which has been insulated and shelved. We are supported by a supermarket who has a trolley for members of the public to donate. We accept individual donations delivered directly to our venue.
We have registered with Fareshare to acquire produce for clients but this is taking time to establish.

We also provide a Baby bank with clothes, baby food, nappies and baby milk. We link to a larger baby bank in Ely to help clients find bigger items needed for babies such as cots, pushchairs.
